This pair are actually for XT drivetrains only (but will fit on earlier 9 speed chainsets with some modifications). They have plates that work both above and below your BB shell’s inside edge to allow for discs to drop outside of the chainrings if you use multiple rings on 29+ wheels (though I wouldn’t test this myself) .
Another thing worth noting is that these shifters are quite large in diameter/width – their maximum size for overlap with chain formations is 495mm. This means that there is space beyond the actual pinion shaft’s inner circumference, which had me wondering what they were actually doing at first!
